Successful kick-off for the 1st URBAN ENERGY FORUM in Berlin

The URBAN ENERGY FORUM titled "Sector Coupling for Smarter Cities" took place for the first time on the 19th of April in Berlin during the Berlin Energy Week as an official side-event of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2018.

Nearly 100 international experts from 14 countries discussed the most pressing questions relevant today and offered solutions for sector coupling in urban areas. A total of 17 presentations and two panel discussions gave different perspectives about the current issues in sector coupling, which were discussed further by the guests and panelists in a business lounge that propelled discussions about collaborations.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Network e.V. (BEN), which hosted the forum in support of the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Business, gathered an exciting mix of energy, transport and urban development experts at the event that day. The first forum was also supported by Berlin Partner for Business and Technology GmbH, WindNODE, Enterprise Europe Network, Energy Technology Cluster Berlin-Brandenburg, DWR eco GmbH, eclareon GmbH and the Eco Innovation Alliance.

The URBAN ENERGY FORUM, aims to create an international, annual platform for companies working to connect renewable energy, transport and heat in urban areas. Against the background of progressive urbanization - more than 50 percent of the world's population currently lives in cities - the energy transition will continue to pick up in metropolitan areas. So, we are happy to announce that following the success of the UEF 2018, preparations for the UEF 2019 have already begun.
